This year, due to the Covid lockdown, Class 10 and 12 exams were either postponed, administered online, or used an internal marking system. This caused a massive number of students to receive higher marks than they otherwise would have through the regular board exam process. Consequently, cut-offs are higher this year, but the seats available in various colleges and universities have not changed,” explains Dr Akhil Shahani, managing director, Thadomal Shahani Centre for Management, Mumbai. The Shahani group runs several undergraduate colleges in the city. He says that students, however, will not be impacted much. If students had received lower marks, the cut-offs would have been lower like the previous years. “So essentially there should not be a significant difference in how admissions pan out this year,” he says.
