Digital university to provide quality education at doorstep
March 03, 2022
Much as the Ministry of Education and various stakeholders are attempting to give shape to the Digital University announced in the 2022 Union Budget, the thought is currently at a nascent stage, with plans to accelerate the process. Regarding how such a university can be successful in a country with uneven internet access, AICTE chairman.
According to Anil Sahasrabudhe, “India is one of those nations where internet penetration is down to the smallest of spots however we have not had the option to complete 100 percent inclusion. In any case, we have infiltrated every one of the regions, and of the 6-7 lakh towns, more than 2.5 lakh towns have internet connectivity. In the following year, each of the 7 lakh towns will have a broadband connection. Indeed, even the information cost in India is the least expensive on the planet, so the discussion on the digital divide will never again hold ground once our objectives are met. This will empower us to give instruction, even in the primary language, and at the doorstep.”
Highlighting the fact that brick and mortar universities alone can’t build the gross enrolment ratio (GER) from 27% to 50% as laid out by the NEP, which likewise implies having an extra 10 million students in the higher education system, Sahasrabudhe adds, “The GER over the most recent a long time since Independence has moved from 0.7% to 27%. Because of restricted actual foundation, the current 60,000 colleges can never expect to achieve 50% GER, and to fabricate another 60,000 universities will huge funds and resources. The Digital University might be the only means to address the limitations of seats and quality education.”
