Jio to incorporate local tech in 5G rollout

Reliance in partnership with Sanmina Corporation is set to manufacture radio units that can be compatible for rolling out 5G network in 700 MHz and 3300 MHz spectrum bands, people aware of the details told ET.
In fact, Jio is the only private telco which is using its own core, or so-called brain, of the network for 5G while radio, or transport, network has been given to Ericsson, Nokia and Samsung. The people further said home-made radios are even now being utilised in the network rollout but going forward, the quantity will increase as local manufacturing increases.
A query sent to Reliance Jio regarding utilisation of home-made radio in 5G rollout remained unanswered at the time of going to press. Last month, Reliance Strategic Business Ventures (RSBVL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Reliance Industries (RIL), and US-based Sanmina Corporation had completed the previously announced joint venture transaction.
In March, the RIL unit had said that the company would invest ₹1,670 crore to form an electronics manufacturing JV with Sanmina, which will mainly produce 4G and 5G telecom equipment for local and overseas markets.
