Microsoft partner Qualcomm on metaverse chip for AR glasses
Qualcomm Inc on Tuesday said it is working with Microsoft Corp on custom chips that would control lightweight augmented reality glasses for use by both customers and organizations for metaverse applications.

At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Qualcomm Chief Executive Cristiano Amon said during a public interview that both organizations will work together to mate the custom chips with the product that designers need to make virtual worlds in which individuals can work and play.

He said that future gadgets from the cooperation will work with a Microsoft programming item called Mesh that permits clients to radiate a sensible similarity of themselves into the headset of another client so it seems like the two individuals are in the same room.

The future hardware will likewise use software from Qualcomm called Snapdragon Spaces that performs essential augmented reality functions like outlining actual spaces so digital objects can be overlaid on them and hand-tracking so clients can control those digital objects with hand gestures.

“We’ve been speaking for quite a long time about the chance of having wearable augmented reality devices that will gain scale,” Amon, one of a few major tech executives not to cancel his physical presence at the trade show, said from a live-streamed talk on stage in Las Vegas.
