Facebook to partner Spotify for Project Boombox

Facebook and Spotify will collaborate on new music features that will allow individuals to tune in to music while they utilize the Facebook application. Mark Zuckerberg discussed the partnership during a meeting on Discord with Casey Newton, who writes the Platformer newsletter.

The team up will bring about new in-application sound player that permits Facebook clients to stream music from Spotify without leaving the application, as per TechCrunch. Inside, Facebook refers to this as “Project Boombox,” CNBC revealed. The news comes in the midst of a major drive into audio by Facebook, which on Monday declared a few new audio features, including the ability to browse and stream podcasts from within the Facebook application.

Recode recently revealed the podcast integration would be powered by Spotify. A source near the streaming organization reveals to Engadget that the new audio player will uphold both music and digital recordings and that there will be options available to paid subscribers, just as free users.
