Start-ups boosted the culture of paid internships for freshers
December 20, 2021
Internships have proved to be a productive process for both organizations and interns. However, in India, the concept of paid internships was rare and has started gaining prominence ever since start-ups refreshed the trend.
Shriya Garg, co-founder of CEO, ContentNinja, a Gurgaon based start-up, has been hiring three paid interns since its inception in 2016.
She added, “Most start-ups are cash strapped, which makes it difficult to attract the right talent and skills. Paid internships act as a sure shot way to incentivise youth to not only experience the start-up culture but also look at long term employment options with us”.
Nikhilesh Tiwari is co-founder and director at helical insight, an eight-year-old tech start-up in Hyderabad said, “As MBA students, we had first-hand experience about how young professionals prefer paid internships over the substitute. As a start-up, we did not have enough funding to offer regular employment across the domains. Thus, we started offering paid internships in marketing and sales domain to management graduates from tier 1 and tier 2 colleges”.
Apart from the regular summer and winter paid internships, few start-ups also give youths the opportunity to continue interning with them even after their colleges re-open, says Garg.
