WhatsApp starts QR code payments in India

WhatsApp has now added UPI QR code scanning to WhatsApp payments for Indian users. Now, you can pay directly through your linked account to sellers, merchants or anyone else. You just have to scan QR code like we used to do in other online payment methods like Paytm, Google Pay and PhonePe.

The meta owned instant messaging app will compete with the above-mentioned players in the fintech sector. WhatsApp Payments are now available to almost all users in India.

WhatsApp tracker WABetaInfo noted the WhatsApp’s status tells us know about this new feature available to users in India.

You can also send money to your contacts by doing the same. For paying to any local store or vendor, simply tap the camera icon, scan the QR code, enter the amount, enter the UPI PIN, and you are good to go.

User must have UPI linked bank account with a registered mobile phone number. The UPI PIN will be the same one you use on other platforms.

WABetaInfo also mentions that WhatsApp is working on the ability to display the background of a chat when making voice calls. This feature in under development and will be available primarily for all users. Currently, WhatsApp does not show the real chat background, but always selects the default one.
