Apple may take bigger bite of India’s manufacturing
May 11, 2020
Apple and top government officials over the last few months have covered the way for the iPhone maker examining the possibility of shifting the production capacity from China to India and increasing the profits in the next few years.
A senior government official told ET, “We are expecting Apple to manufacture smartphones mostly for exports through its manufacturers, availing the benefit under the production linked scheme”.
According to the market research firm IDC, Apple held a market share of 18% last year. The move comes at a time of rising tensions between the US and China. Experts are still dubious as India still doesn’t have the required ecosystem.
