The drive, carried out last October, pays distributers for news content and permits them to give restricted access to pay-walled stories for clients. Showcase is part of Google’s $1-billion venture to support quality journalism.
Google has fixed concurrences with 30 Indian distributers to offer access to a portion of their content like HT Digital Streams Ltd, The Hindu Group, Indian Express Group, ABP LIVE, India TV, NDTV, Zee News, Amar Ujala, Deccan Herald, Punjab Kesari, The Telegraph India, Indo Asian News Service (IANS) and Asian News International (ANI).
The content from the distributers will begin showing up in News Showcase story boards on Google News and on Discover pages in both English and Hindi. More local dialects will be included what’s to come.
