March 15, 2021
In an strategic decision, designing and development major Larsen and Toubro (L&T) has enrolled 22% females at trainee level across its major organizations in 2020, up 8 percent over the earlier year.
Figures shared by L&T, propose an ascent in the admission of females at the degree of graduate engineer trainees (GETs), and post graduate engineer trainees (PGETs).
“There are currently an ever-increasing number of females on the shop floor, project destinations and workplaces. L&T is at the cutting edge to establish an enabling environment that offers female opportunities to attempt new things, to push limits, to look for new difficulties to succeed and make their mark,” its CEO and MD S N Subrahmanyan told PTI.
The organization information shows a consistent increase in the share of female trainees.
While in 2018, 12 percent females were recruited, the number shot up to 14 percent in 2019, and 22 percent a year ago. L&T enrolled around 1,100 graduate and post graduate engineer trainees for deployment across organizations in 2020.
Traditionally, the frontline jobs in engineering, construction and procurement tasks and hi-tech manufacturing sectors have been male dominated.
