Mid-career upskilling required to enhance leadership capabilities
January 14, 2022
India Inc. has experienced a shortage of skilled personal across senior-level positions to steer operations to drive development and benefit. It led Indian entities to delay their transformation to digitalize and compete worldwide institutions due to limited foresight and a conservative approach in decision making.
A few Indian organizations saw a delay because of myriad factors to overhaul their cycles and started steps to usher change as institutions worldwide remained in a state of sync with worldwide challenges. There has been an urgent need to build competencies from the top leadership team to management group to match industry requirements.
Several senior administration personnel, known to be reluctant to change, have held on to positions regardless of having outdated skills. It led to skirmished within the organization, making next generation leaders vulnerable and exited for greener pastures, thus, leaving a dent in the organization’s talent pool.
An article named “India’s Leadership Change,” published in ‘Strategy+Business’ mentioned the shortcomings in the Indian business through a study by Harvard Business Publishing in 2010 by stating that 88% of top Indian organizations cited ‘gaps in leadership practice’ as their main challenge in coming years.
