TikTok is developing own AR platform

TikTok continues to quickly build on its platform and tools, as it hopes to profit by its current opportunity, and solidify its place as a key platform inside the broader social media space.

The platform’s latest development on this front comes as its own AR effects studio, which, as Facebook and Snapchat, would enable AR creators to construct their own effects for the platform, expanding its pool of creative, interactive user options.

As you can find in this tweet, shared by social media expert Matt Navarra (via Sam Schmir), TikTok’s new ‘Effect House’ is at currently open to selected designers as a part of initial testing of the tool.

TikTok has confirmed to TechCrunch that the new platform launched before in the month, however it’s as yet in its beginning phases, and isn’t open for general access at this point.

However, in the long run, the plan would be open its Effects House platform to all creators, similar to Facebook’s Spark AR platform and Snapchat’s Lens Studio, giving greater ability to individuals to build their own special visual effects, using TikTok’s different AR functions to create whole new user experiences within the application.
