Facebook acquires crowd sourced mapping company

Facebook Inc. on Thursday acquired Swedish mapping innovation organization Mapillary, which gathers pictures from a huge number of supporters of developing vivid and to-date maps, the organizations said.
Facebook affirmed the exchange, however, it declined to unveil the terms. Mapillary expects to unravel one of the most costly issues in mapping, keeping maps refreshed with “road level information” about signs, addresses, and other data that can be seen from the street.
