Facebook to buy renewable energy in India

Facebook has signed a deal to purchase renewable energy in India from a nearby association’s breeze power project, the online media giant first such deal in the South Asian country, the organizations said on Thursday.

The 32-megawatt wind power project, situated in southern Karnataka state, is essential for a bigger deal of wind and sunlight-based undertakings that Facebook and Mumbai-put together CleanMax are cooperating with respect to for providing sustainable force into India’s electrical network, they said in a joint explanation.

CleanMax will possess and work the activities, while Facebook will buy the power off the grid using ecosystem attribute certificates, or carbon credits, the organizations said. Facebook’s head of renewable energy, Urvi Parekh, disclosed to Reuters the organization ordinarily doesn’t own the power plants but instead signs “long term” electricity purchasing agreements with the renewable power organization.
